I honestly don't know what the official title for this drum is (I used it at home as my practice instrument when I was in my school band), but the upper surface of the drum head reads "Ludwig Rockers (Made in USA): Medium Coated" and the lower surface reads "Ludwig Resonant Snare (Made in USA): X Thin Clear Snare". So, I guess it's a resonant snare drum in Ludwig's Rockers line of products, and it has a medium-coated top surface and a clear bottom surface. The drum has a 14"-diameter head (16" diameter overall) and measures 5 3/4" high. It's weight is about 6 pounds.
The upper surface shows a little sign of physical wear, but it is still tight and provides a sharp sound when struck. The lower surface is pristine. The sides show little to no aesthetic issues. The stand still operates extremely well, although there is some speckling (if that?s the right word) in places on the silver surfaces. The screws all turn easily, and the bolts fasten securely.
The very-solid, plastic carrying case has space for the drum, its stand pieces, as well as a pair or two of drum sticks. I've included my best pair (16" long, 1/2" diameter, weight of 2 ounces each) which have a shiny, smooth surface. All told, the entire weight of the case with all items inside is 16 pounds.
The stand's height ranges from 21" to 33" (approximately, depending on the height of the legs): essentially, the stand can telescope a total of one foot. The third "prong" of the upper portion of the stand can be manipulated to secure differently sized drums.
Also included here is a black, rubber drum pad which fits over the top surface of the drum. It has a 6"-diameter central portion, which is about 1/2" thick and heavily mutes stick strikes to a "tap-tap-tap" sound and almost completely eliminates the "snare" sound. The outer ring (the entire pad has a 13 1/2" diameter, so the ring has a 7.5" width) simply muffles the snare sound and gives a more drum-like feel while still reducing the decibel level.
Lastly, a training manual came with the case: entitled First Division Band Method: Book 3, it includes about 30 pages of practice material including rudiments, drum solos, and ensemble pieces. The material is copyright xxxx.
